Women's Lib My Ass

Now it's no surprise to anyone who knows me that I think it's a great injustice that I have to work. Well that anyone has to work really, but of course my main focus is #1 here.

I have this belief that if the whole womens' lib movement hadn't happened, then I could be at home looking after some kids and having bonbons.

Now before anyone starts on me about how raising kids is hard, let me clarify my point. Yeah sure it's a PAIN to take care of kids, but it's not exactly rocket science. That's why you don't need a PhD to be a nanny. I do acknowledge that's it's physically exhausting, and the lack of adult companionship can certainly do a number with your brain. But there's not the pressure of working for "the man"...which is what I hate. I hate busting my butt in order to get user guides out the door by a certain deadline so that customers can pay money so that we all will still have a job tomorrow. I hate that kind of PRESSURE. And as for my rocket science comment...it's the lack of rocket science that I think makes alot of stay at home moms go batty...they're not challenging their brains and they go nuts with talk of Dora and Blue's Clues.

It's not that I want to stay at home and look after my yet-to-be-conceived children...however I figure as a working mom, you still have to panic over the kids, regardless if you're at home or not.

Here's what it boils down to...women back in the day fought hard to have the RIGHT to work. To have the CHOICE.

Well that created a dual-income society...which raised the cost of things because people at had more money...

Which made it so that there no longer was a CHOICE. I don't have a choice. I HAVE to work in order to afford to live.

I would much, MUCH rather go batty raising my own kids than go batty trying to deal with office politics, shmoozing, and product deadlines.

My coworker Doris once heard me complain and seemed very hurt...she was all "My generation sacrified alot in order to give you the choice to work"...and I was all "yeah, but i don't have the CHOICE. Now i HAVE to work. So now women are screwed".

I'm gonna be honest with you...if men were the ones having babies...they would NOT have been retarded enough to want to join the workforce.

I have to do dishes, laundry, vacuuming ANYWAY. So I might as well max out my time by doing that during the day at home. And really, babies/children are only at home for the first 3.5 years of their lives...after that it's all about nursery school, kindergarten, school. After THAT OMG it's smooth sailing...

And please don't anyone tell me that while you're kids are in school and you're home that life is hard. Because whenever I have kids in school, everything you do that's work-related during the day, I'll have to do after putting in an 8 hour workday plus 1.5 hour commute in there.

AND...to add to that...I'm sitting here trying to figure out how I can afford childcare. I'm sure back in the day when women entered the workforce, there were a ton of women who still were at home who would look after your kid for free or for cheap. Not anymore...I need to figure out how to put aside $800 to $1200 a month if I decide to have a baby.

Right now...as I sit at my desk at work thinking about the Integration Guide, Quick Start Guide, and 3 product CDs that are due this week...being a woman with the "supposed" choice to work blows.

if we actually did have the choice, i wonder if there'd be as many juvenile delinquents running around as there are.
