And worst of all, I know employees aren't allowed to change the temperature. WTF is up with that?! Like some dude in some random corporate office knows what it should be in southern california at night?!?!
So i did some research, and clearly i'm not the only one who feels this way:
The Squeaky Wheel
Upon a fourth call, I was told that gym employees are forbidden to adjust the AC controls and would be fired if they did so. An operations mgr. stated that only a corporate employee is allowed to set and adjust the AC. The mgr. also stated, amiably, calling 24 Hour Fitness corporate would be a waste of time since a myriad of such complaints had preceded mine; I tend to agree.
Epinions for TX location
Now recently 24 Hour Fitness has made another stupid decision by choosing to raise the temperature of their clubs to 78 degrees from 69 degrees. This was done without doubt to cut costs and boost profits at the expense of their members. The clubs blame this on the corporate office and tell you to go online and complain to them, which I did and NEVER have gotten a response yet even after 20 complaints. I then decided to call the corporate phone number presented on their website, when I called them they blame it on the club saying they have no authority over individual clubs.
So my plan is to call corporate myself and get to the bottom of this. 'Cause seriously, SERIOUSLY, it's retarded how hot they keep their gyms. Heck, eff air conditioning, just install some/more fans!

Sabina, you would be everybody's hero if you could get to the bottom of the red tape and somehow get the temperature lowered at the gyms. Geesh...it would be better if they at least had windows and doors to open to let in fresh cool air. Anyway, I support your efforts 100%; let me know if there is anything I can do!
Is it any better at Ballys or LA Fitness?
I think I'm getting ready to join a gym... n' leaning toward 24 Hour Fitness.
If there's anything Canada can take away from our neighbour south of the border is 24 hr gyms, it took Ottawa forever to get 24 hr grocery stores, mind you none are around where I live but we finally got them 3 years ago. A 24hr gym would be great, as long as it's cool of course. :) Wouldn't a cooler gym result in fewer bacteria growing and such? Not to mention make it more comfortable for its paying patrons. Is that what customer service is about or is part of corporate culture now "It's all about customer service so as long as it doesn't hurt the bottom line." That's too bad.
Email the CEO! Don't be threatening or anything but just state the facts. I did this for Air Canada last month and got my money back. The CEO is far more likely to care about customer happiness than some random customer-service person or even a corporate dude.
