In N Out: my blog likes extra pickles

So on KFI this morning they talked about In N Out (because there's that crazy lawsuit, blah blah), and so I figured I would scope out the Secret Menu 'cause I had no idea what a "wishburger" was...
From http://www.zenlemur.com/innout.shtml
In N Out's Secret Menu

  • "Animal Style" - bun is grilled with mustard, sauteed onions instead of raw, pickles, extra "special sauce" - [this can also be applied to fries (Note: I recently tried this on fries, but don't personally recommend it / Nov. 2, 2003)]

  • "Wish Burger" - no meat, i.e. veggie burger

  • "Protein Style" - lettuce wrapped around the burger instead of a bun for all of you who are in "The Zone"

  • Update 12/23/2003 - there is no such thing as "Old Fashioned Style" - originally I had this listed as "ketchup and mustard instead of the weird special sauce" but that is incorrect as a call from In-n-Out today revealed.

  • "Flying Dutchman" - two meat patties with two slices of cheese. that's it.

  • "Double Meat" - Double Double without cheese

  • "4x4" - 4 meat patties with 4 slices of cheese. Are you SURE you can eat that?

  • "2x4" - 2 meat patties with 4 slices of cheese for the fromage afficionado

  • "Grilled Cheese" - cheeseburger, sans meat

  • "Fries - well done" - get your fries extra crispy and brown the way you like them!

  • "Choco-Vanilla Swirl Shake" - just what it sounds like Note: this is not an official secrent menu item, but at most In-n-Out Burgers they will make it if asked for... 12/23/2003

  • "Neopolitan Shake" - a blend of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes.

So for those of you non-Cali folks, In N Out is a burger chain that's like...a religion here, and it's jsut interesting because it's all fresh yummy stuff...but it's still a fast-food chain. Plus, the menu itself has like 4 items on it, buty ou can order things all bizarre (i.e. the Secret Menu, above)...which is so interesting to think of not presenting your full list of items on a menu (common sense) but that just adds to the allure of In N Out.

Side note: if you watch The OC, if you see the kids drinking soda out of a drink thingy that's white with red palm trees...yep, that's In N Out.

MMM
mmm
good....

I'm almost 30 years old, and have lived my whole life in Southern California. In fact I live in between 3 In-N-Outs that are all about 5 er 6 minutes away from my apt. Yet I have never had an In-N-Out burger. I've had a few fries, but that was just stealing some from a friend. I'm soooo the minority on the whole burger issue. The last time I had a hamburger was 6th grade camp... uh... only because that was all we could eat. I even had a year n' a half stretch where I worked at Burger King... didn't help my burger disgust. On a side note... my roomate more than makes up for my lack of burger consumption, as he eats at In-N-Out like 3 times a week.

OMG who is that guy to never have an IN N OUT!
Anyway yes when I did the whole Atkins thing for so long I always ordered Protein style! They have the biggest leafs of lettuce ever!

An Animal Style is the way we always get them...Steve & I!

Anyway just thought I would say that same article was in Mercury News how funny!

Hmm the ones here in SJ Bay Area hire only college students and its at a higher rate then say MC Donalds or any other fast food. I could be wrong I havent seen in a long time. They were hiring people @ $12 an hour but last time I seen a sign posted was probably 2 years ago.

Uh...real men eat burgers. Although since I wouldn't put your roommate in the "real man" category, I guess i should change my criteria :P

Hrm... real men eat burgers? I thought that real men work out and do martial arts? Nope I guess not. I guess real men eat burgers and play D&D. Let's see how the how the Level 5 Power Sword does against a flying triangle choke.

Nope, they just gotta eat burgers.

More importantly, real men can start fires and cook the raw meat...

From a friend of mine:
was going to say that from my point of view, which is where we don’t have an In N Out burger places, it sounds like a p0rn or something. Like if I was going over to a friend’s to have a burger… Ya, I’m going over to Julie’s for some In N Out… animal style.

I know how to start a fire, and I can cook raw meat with the best of them. I like steak, chicken, and seafood... I just hate the taste and texture of hamburger.
